This Privacy Policy describes how This Human Experience, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Misplaced Histories mobile application ("the App").
We take your privacy seriously. We built Misplaced Histories to surface the history of the world around you — not to collect, sell, or profit from your personal data.
We are also committed to transparency about the limitations of AI-generated content delivered through our service, including the potential for inaccuracies and bias inherent in artificial intelligence systems.

Account information: When you create an account we collect your name and email address, provided either directly or through Google authentication.
Payment information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details. Stripe's privacy policy governs how your payment information is handled.
Location data: The App requests access to your device's precise location to find historical stories near you. Location is used in the moment to generate stories and is not stored, logged, or tracked over time. We do not build a history of where you have been.
Usage data: We collect information about how you use the App including which stories you generate, which stories you save, thumbs up and thumbs down ratings you submit, and general app activity. This data is used to improve story quality and the overall experience.
Device information: We collect basic device information including device type, operating system version, and app version for the purpose of troubleshooting and improving performance.
Survey responses: If you complete the optional in-app feedback survey, your responses are stored and used to improve the App.

Because location data is central to how Misplaced Histories works, we want to be especially clear about how it is handled.
What we do: When you tap to generate a story, your device's current coordinates are sent to our servers to identify nearby historical sources and generate a story. This transmission is encrypted.
What we do not do: We do not store your coordinates after a story is generated. We do not log a history of locations you have visited. We do not share your location with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use your location for any purpose other than generating the story you requested.
Your control: You may deny location permission at any time through your device settings. If you deny permission the App will function in a limited capacity. Revoking location permission does not affect your account or subscription.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
Service providers: We share information with trusted third party service providers who help us operate the App, including:
These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only to provide services to us and not for their own purposes.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of This Human Experience LLC, our users, or the public.
Business transfers: If This Human Experience LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We retain your account information and usage data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes.
Story content generated during your sessions is cached in our database to improve performance for other users. Cached stories are not associated with your personal account after generation.
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information including encrypted data transmission, secure database infrastructure through Supabase, and access controls limiting who can access user data.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but we are committed to protecting your information using reasonable and appropriate measures.

Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate information about you.
Deletion: You may request that we delete your account and associated personal information.
Portability: You may request your data in a portable format.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, our legal basis for processing your personal information is your consent (for location data) and the performance of our contract with you (for account and subscription data). The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13 we will delete it promptly. The App integrates with third party services whose privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of Google, Stripe, and other third party services you interact with through the App.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify active users of material changes via email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
