Sources & Corrections

Where stories come from, how they are written, and how to report an error.

Where stories come from

Every story is written from public sources matched to a location:

How a story is written

The app gathers what those sources say about a place, selects the most specific and overlooked material, and uses AI to write a short narrative. A narrator reads it aloud. Illustrations are artwork inspired by the story, not photographs.

What that means for accuracy

AI-written stories can contain errors, omissions, or details that go beyond the sources. Stories are built for curiosity, not for citation. If you're researching, follow the sources.

How to report an error

Tap the thumbs-down on any story. That pulls it from rotation for review. Or email hello@misplacedhistories.app with the story title, the location, and what seems wrong.

What happens next

Flagged stories are reviewed, corrected or removed, and regenerated from the sources. Featured Collection stories are corrected in consultation with the institution that provided them.
